How to Apply for the R370 Grant Online
You can apply online at srd.sassa.gov.za in about 5-10 minutes. You’ll need your South African ID, phone number, and banking details. Visit the website, click “Apply”, enter your ID number, verify your phone with an OTP code, and submit your banking information. For detailed step-by-step instructions, see our complete application guide.
Application process: The application is completely free and available 24/7. You don’t need a reference number to start—you’ll receive an SMS confirmation with one after you apply. You can apply from any device with internet access and check your status anytime afterward.
Who qualifies: To be eligible, you must be between 18-59 years old, unemployed, not receiving UIF or NSFAS funding, and not getting other social grants. This social relief grant helps unemployed South Africans during financial hardship. After submitting your application, check back regularly to track its progress
If your application was declined, you can appeal for free at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status. Log in with your ID number, find the declined month, click “Appeal”, select the reason for your appeal, and submit. You can appeal each declined month separately. For best results, submit within 90 days of the decline.
Tracking your appeal: Check your appeal progress by visiting srd.sassa.gov.za and reviewing your application history. The status will show whether your appeal is pending, approved, or rejected. Most appeals are reviewed within 30-90 days. Check back regularly for updates.
Why applications get declined: “Means income source identified” means income was found linked to your ID. “UIF registered” means you appear on the unemployment insurance database. If the information is incorrect, you can provide proof of unemployment when appealing. You have the right to contest incorrect information—track your appeal online
To update your bank account information, visit srd.sassa.gov.za, click “Banking Details”, enter your account number, and verify with an OTP code. You can update your banking information anytime before payment. The system works with all major South African banks including Capitec, FNB, TymeBank, and others.
How updates work: The system verifies your account instantly with your bank. You’ll need your ID number, phone number, account number, and bank name. Updating online is safer and more convenient than visiting an office. Find the banking details section under “Banking Details” on the website.
Changing your phone number: If you lost your phone or changed numbers, you can update your mobile number online at srd.sassa.gov.za. You’ll need your ID number and new phone to receive the verification code. If possible, verify both your old and new numbers, or visit an office with your ID for assistance.
